The Choir

The St. Michael's Schola and Polyphonic Choir were established in 1993 by Rev. Daniel Oppenheimer, F.S.S.P..  Since that time the Schola has provided the singing of the proper chants (introit, gradual, Alleluia, offertory and communion) for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as found in the GRADUALE ROMANUM.  The Polyphonic choir assists in the liturgy by singing Gregorian and polyphonic settings of the Mass ordinary (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Angus Dei), as well as motets and hymns.  The Choir's repertoire is centered around and formed by the music of the great masters of the sixteenth century, Palestrina, Victoria, and Byrd.

The two ensembles sing every Sunday at high Mass (10:15 a.m.) as well as on Major Holy Days (in the evening) from September to the Feast of Corpus Christi (usually in June).   Usually during the summer months the Choir will take a much needed break and return to us on the Feast of the Assumption (August 15).  Although there has been personnel changes within the choir, the beauty and richness they lend to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is every bit as lovely and awe inspiring today, as it was back in 1993 when they were first formed.
